It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fredrick John Schraeder (Fred) on March 21, 2020 at the age of 92 years. Funeral services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at a later date – when it is safe to do so.

Fred was born on October 27, 1927 in Unity, SK – the 9th child of 14 born to Fredrick and Walburga Schraeder. He is predeceased by both his parents, and his siblings – Peter, Theresa, Francis, Elizabeth, Joseph, Cecelia, Alphonse, George, Laurence and John. He is survived by siblings – Daniel (Marlene), Ida and Dorothy (Ken) and sister-in-law Katie and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Fred married the love of his life, Helen (Gerein) on October 18, 1950 and they were happily married for 69 years. Together they raised 4 children and were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Fred loved them all and so enjoyed their visits and chats.

Fred began his working career on the family farm, just outside of Reward, SK, – learning and doing everything related to farming back in the day. Over the course of his work life Fred held many different jobs and did everything from farm work, to construction, to labourer in grain terminals and at the Unity Salt Plant. He found his true calling when he became Boiler Operator/Maintenance man at the Unity Hospital; Clerk of the Works building the new hospital in Unity; Chief Engineer/Boiler Operator at the Vermilion Hospital in Alberta; Clerk of the Works on the Catholic School expansion; and finally Chief Maintenance Engineer/Boiler Operator at Queen Victoria Hospital here in Revelstoke, BC.

After retirement in 1988 Fred was always helping out with his handyman skills wherever he could. He gave generously of his time, skills and knowledge his whole life. He particularly liked to help when any of the family had a renovation, construction or yard work project going on – he was always there to help. He took on looking after the maintenance at the church, the seniors centre, and their condo for many years. He also had to join the Actors Guild when appearing in a TV commercial for Chrysler.

In his leisure, Fred enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards & games, bowling, carpet bowling, socializing and loved dancing and listening to music. Fred was very involved with the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years and was Grand Knight for Council #4712 for a term. He held positions on school boards, parish councils, helped coach little league, was part of the 4-H Club and the cadet parent group, and was President of the Revelstoke Seniors Association for 7.5 years. He enjoyed being involved in his community and church and worked hard with fundraising, always a firm believer in volunteerism and obviously keeping busy.

Fred also loved automobiles and over his lifetime owned 81 vehicles (new and used). This includes trucks and cars of all makes and models and the many motorized RV’s that they camped in. Fred bought his first vehicle in 1949 – a 1928 Reo one-ton truck and his last vehicle purchased was a 2009 Kia Rio car. Starting his driving adventures in a Reo and ending them in a Rio. He took great pride in teaching all of his children to drive and maintain their vehicles and passed on that same knowledge to many of the grandchildren.

Family and faith was foremost in Fred’s life. He cherished and was so proud of all his family. He leaves behind a large and lasting legacy in his loving wife Helen, his sons – Matt and Al (Candice); his daughters – Yvonne (Ken) Thompson and Jean (Sonny) Pedersen. 13 Grandchildren: Chelan (Corry) Sabiston; John (Crystal) Sali; Malia (Jeff) Fitzpatrick; Bryan (Anne Huizinga) Sali; Starla Henderson; Leah Wood; Dayna (Chase) Elliott; Kirei Thompson; Blaine (Kate Woofenden-Gow) Schraeder; Justin (Angela Bower) Schraeder; Jeremy (Caroline) Pedersen; Neil Pedersen and Rob (Shayne) Pedersen.

23 Great Grandchildren: Sidney, Sailor, Alexis, Jette, Violet, Brevin, Copeland, Ciel, Vaya, Maya, Nic, Jasper, Adelina, Camdyn, Begbie, Gavin, Monty, Declan, Walter, Jaya, Chad, Rae-Lynn and Kira.

Fred was an amazing, soft spoken man – wonderful husband, loving father, ‘grand’ and ‘great’ beyond words. He was our role model, teacher, mentor, steadfast patriarch and loyal friend. He will be deeply missed.

*He was handy with a hammer and saw.*

The Family wishes to thank Dr. Molder for his dedicated care over the years, Nurse Practitioner Anne Marie Gill, the caring staff at the Moberly Manor Day Program, the nursing staff at QVH, Home Care workers, and the care staff at Cottage D – Mt. Cartier Court for his respite care.

Olive Marion Lazzarotto (Turnross) passed away peacefully, in the early evening of Sunday March 22, 2020, in the presence of family, at Mount Cartier Court, Revelstoke BC. Olive is survived by her sons Lorne, Eric (Anne), Arne (Leslie), Norm (Julie), daughter-in-law Tracy, 9 grandchildren: Tadd, Christian, Erika, Martin, Jeff, Brooke, Brent, Justin, Ashley, 3 step-grandchildren: Kristin, Jessica, Kylie, 7 great grandchildren: Kody, Jacob, Alexis, Avery, Norah, Jack, Blake, 3 step-great grandchildren: Phoenix, Lincoln, Nevaeh, sister Lola (Chuck) Gallicano and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Armando, son Ralph, sister Phyllis and daughter-in-law Georgina.

Olive was the daughter of a pioneer family and lived her entire life in Revelstoke. She was born on December 2, 1925 and graduated from the local high school in 1943. She went on to work in Manning’s Restaurant, the orchards in the Okanagan valley to harvest fruit crops and later the local Post Office. In 1944, during the first Golden Spike Days in Revelstoke, Olive was crowned Golden Spike Queen and named Miss CPR.  In 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Armando (Mondo), and they were happily married for 67 years.

Olive loved reading a good novel and composing poetry about the family. She enjoyed playing duplicate bridge with her friends and participated in many local and out of town tournaments. She sewed many of her own clothes, was a smart dresser and her knitting produced several remarkable sweaters. With Mondo, they grew one of the finest gardens in the neighbourhood and her canning provided the family with vegetables all through the winter. She was a superb cook and baker.

It was important for Olive to celebrate with her children and grandchildren their life mile posts, their sports achievements and career successes. She was the family historian and communicator. She and Mondo attended and cheered at countless baseball and basketball games. She would craft interesting write-ups for the local newspaper describing exciting Little League baseball games and other worthy news about the family. She always had her camera handy, and never hesitated to take pictures at family events. Throughout her life she filled numerous albums with treasured photographs.

The CP Rail slow-pitch tourney each September long weekend was a highlight for her. Her sons, grandchildren and other family members played for the ‘Uncoachables’ team. It became an annual tradition for the family to gather at Emo’s restaurant following the tourney for an evening of close family kinship.

Their lakefront property on Mara Lake was a favourite gathering place for the family. She spent countless hours with Mondo over the years helping to develop and make many improvements to the cottage, ensuring that the family had a wonderful vacation every year.

In retirement, she and Mondo kept active, spending many enjoyable hours with friends and family on the golf course, curling rink and cross-country skiing runs in Revelstoke. She was an avid fan of “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” and would chuckle if she knew a question the contestants were stumped on.

During her last few months, Olive resided at Mount Cartier Court, where she received dedicated care from their medical staff and that of Queen Victoria Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Kim Veale, Nurse Practitioner Ann Marie Gill and the nursing care aids.

Olive was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Donations can be made in memory of Olive, to the Revelstoke District Health Foundation/Mt Cartier Court, Box 2421, Revelstoke, BC, V0E 2S0.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in Revelstoke at a later date.

With heaviest of hearts we are devastated by the passing of our beloved, beautiful daughter Nicole (Niccki) Marie Joesi Deverall, who passed away peacefully with her loving children and family at her side at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops on March 25, 2020, after a lengthy 18 week stay.

Niccki battled stomach cancer courageously with sheer elegance since the devastating diagnosis in October of 2018, but it was beyond her control. She made a very positive impact in this world and will be sorely missed by all that knew her. Our hearts have been shattered into a million pieces.

Niccki was born in Kamloops, B.C. on March 6 th , 1977 and was a lifelong resident of Revelstoke. She attended Mount Begbie and Mountain View Elementary Schools before graduating from RSS in 1994, where she made many lifelong friends.

More than anything, Niccki loved being a mother to her three beautiful children Emjai, Natalie and Brooks from the minute they were born. She lived and fought fiercely to protect them and give them a life enriched with love and support. She taught them to have compassion for others, to respect themselves and others, honesty and above all, to keep their faith in God.

Niccki was always there with her love and generosity for anybody that needed a helping hand. Her home was always open to everyone. She was always happy and cheerful – such a joy to be around. Her huge, beautiful smile could light up the darkest of rooms and her loud laugh was so infectious. She truly was our family’s shining star. She was our hero. Niccki was larger than life even as a little girl…a true inspiration to all that were lucky enough to know her.

Niccki enjoyed many activities such as reading, gardening – both vegetable and flowers, family vacations, travelling with friends, cooking and baking for the kids, camping, shopping, but most of all, she loved big family dinners which there were many. She loved to plan dinner parties and have her friends and their children over. She enjoyed every holiday, but Christmas was her favorite. She would have all of the gifts bought and wrapped by October and the house was always decorated by early November.

Niccki was at peace in her final days knowing she was going to be with the Lord. She was comforted by knowing she would rejoice in the reunion with all the beloved family members that went before her, especially her Grandma Nina, in which she had a very close and profound relationship with.

A Private Mass was held by Father Derrick from Sacred Heart Cathedral in Kamloops. Entombment of her created remains will follow in the family crypt at Ocean View Mausoleum, Burnaby, B.C. at a later date.

Niccki was predeceased by her most loving Grandparents Antonio (Tony) and Nina Cianflone, Grandfather Erwin Marback, Uncles Antonio Jr. and Rudy Cianflone, Auntie Terri Cianflone, and numerous great grandparents and great uncles, as well as a couple close friends.

She will be mourned with great sadness by her parents Marie and Trevor Marback, her three beautiful children: daughters Emjai and Natalie and son Brooks Deschamps, all of Revelstoke; sister Danielle Marback of Martinsville, Saskatchewan; brother and sister- in-law Quinn and Kaitlynn Marback of Revelstoke; aunt and uncle Donna and Jim Spankes of Kamloops; Grandma Sylvia Marback of Calgary; aunt Tara Marback of Calgary; nephew Joshua Marback of Martinsville, Saskatchewan; cousins Cory Deverall of Revelstoke, Eddie Deverall of Abbotsford, Waylon (Allison) Deverall of Revelstoke; best friends Crystal Wuhlar of Revelstoke, Tamara Karras of Revelstoke and Ashley Ogilvie of Revelstoke. She also leaves behind her rambunctious, furry companion Bailey (Bales), as well as a host of many good friends and distant relatives.

The family would like to thank Dr. S. Rolheiser, Dr. S. Montgomery, Dr. B. Proctor Oncologist, Dr. C. Molder and the Nurses at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops. You went above and beyond in Niccki’s care with great compassion. We will not forget you.

Thank you to Father Derrick for all your weekly visits. They meant the world to her. Due to the Covid-19 we can not have a funeral at this time but will plan for A Celebration of Life at a later date when the virus is controlled. Niccki you are our Angel…you will be forever loved and always in our hearts. We miss you desperately Niccki.

He left this world with his mom and sister by his side and his family holding him in love and prayer and being beside him as much as possible. Obituary Notice – Dennis Walter Geidt 1934 – 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend Dennis Geidt. Denny passed away on April 14, 2020 at Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke, BC. He was 85 years old.

Denny was born on June 2, 1934 in Comox, BC. He was the middle child of three children, having an older sister, Beverly, and a younger sister, Marjorie. Denny and his sisters were lucky to have been raised so closely with cousins. His parents were a family where 2 Geidt brothers married 2 sisters. Denny’s Aunt and Uncle also had 1 son and 2 daughters. All 6 children were close in age. Denny and his cousin Doug were mischievous boys and the girls Beverly, Marjorie, Doreen and Norma were always close by to pick up the pieces.

Denny started an Auto Body apprenticeship in Courtenay, and in 1954 completed his apprenticeship training at the Vancouver Vocational College. For 10 years he worked at Dueck’s Car Dealership in Vancouver. Denny and Sheila married in 1956 and started raising their 2 children Cathy and Brian.

They moved to Revelstoke in 1964 where they owned and operated Revelry Billiard Lounge for 23 years. The Pool Hall started out where Conversations Coffee Shop is currently located and in 1974 Denny purchased a house next door to Main Street Café and tore down the house. When the snow was gone in March, with carpenters Joe Stagliano and Tony Bigelo and Labourer John Manson, Denny and the 3 guys worked tirelessly on the new building and reopened the Pool Hall 6 months later in August. This is the building Society Snow and Skate and Legends and Heroes Toys n’ Apparel currently occupy.

Revelstoke offered everything Denny loved to do. He was a true outdoorsman, enjoying family camping, boating, fishing, hunting and had a passion for skiing. There were many trips as a family back to Vancouver Island where he continued his shenanigans with friends and family! Along the way he always stopped at auto wreckers and car shows, often hauling cars or car parts from one place or another.

Over the next 20 years Denny worked at both the Mica and Revelstoke Dams and for other contractors. In 1986 they closed the Pool Hall and opened Country Classic Antiques. Denny transferred his skills from auto body painting to furniture refinishing. He enjoyed working alongside his son Brian for 22 years before retiring in 2008. It is safe to say that his furniture has graced numerous homes in Revelstoke. To tourists, their furniture represented beautiful hand-finished pieces that are scattered across the country.

Denny is survived by his wife Sheila, their 2 children, Cathy (Jamie) and Brian (Mary Ellen), 7 grandchildren, Sadie (Brad), Jessa, Jonas, Reilly (Kristina), Madalyn (Terence), Emily (Oliver), and Ian, and 4 great grandchildren, Theo, Owen, Ava, and Zoe.

At Denny’s request he was cremated with no service.

Obituary Notice – David John Meehan

David John Meehan
(1950-2020)

David went to be with his Lord Jesus on Sunday, April 12, aged 69 – faithful to the end.

He was described by those who knew him as: Kind, caring, humble, generous, considerate, soft hearted, organized, gentle, methodical, always the first to offer help, hard working, unassuming, soft spoken, careful; a man who walked his faith quietly and humbly, had a big heart toward others; a man who never said a bad word about anyone, admired by many. Dave loved well. He was quick to support others practically and prayerfully.

He also was quietly stubborn, could not be pushed into actions he did not agree with, avoided conflict and disliked
confrontation to the extent that he often talked around an issue rather than come across too strongly. He could be
very serious but had a twinkle in his eyes and a wacky dry sense of humor that was always at the ready. He
considered his well-used and holey Stansfield’s rough-wool bush shirt and his 40-year-old well-worn earflap MEC
toque as marks of honor.

Dave was born and raised in Revelstoke. He often spoke in later years of the many wonderful memories of people
and good times there. One notable experience was spending 2 summers as park warden living alone on the top of
Mount Revelstoke, where he hiked miles each day through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
Following graduation from UBC in 1973, Dave began working for Weyerhaeuser as a forester in Kamloops. After
working for a couple of years, he left to go to Bible School, met Yvonne Penner there and managed to convince her
to marry him.

Dave and Yvonne and baby Charis arrived in Clearwater in 1979 for Dave to work again for Weyerhaeuser. Together
they built their life and soon added Jeremy, then Christopher, to the family. In 1991, Dave transitioned his career to
having an independent forestry consultant company (David Meehan Forestry Consulting). In 2002, at the age of 52,
he wrapped up the professional forestry part of DMFC in order to spend full time studying his bible and doing what
came along to help people in practical ways. He was so thankful for that time as he had those three years to spend
full time with Yvonne before she passed away in 2005.

Later Dave began to work organizing and rolling out safety programs for local loggers – relationships he valued
greatly. His experience was that he never had to look for a job, God always brought him enough work to meet the
needs of the family.

He married a second time, in 2007, to Donna Parker and together they continued in Clearwater. Starting in 2007 and
in the 13 years since, nine grandchildren were added to the family – all cherished.

He served the people of Clearwater in many ways. He was a leader within the Living Streams Church group and
worked in the Clearwater Healing Rooms. For several years he served on the Wells Gray Community Forest
Corporation Board, then on the Evergreen Acres Senior Citizens Home Society Board. He also played an
instrumental role in the creation of the first tennis courts in town during the late 80s.

He was predeceased by his wife Yvonne, his mother Rowena and his father Leslie (Gus) Meehan.

He is survived by his wife Donna, adult children Charis and Ash (Eden and Judah) Rempel; Jeremy and Lisa (Ria, Lucy and Stefan) Meehan; Christopher and Kelly (Jack, Sarah, Brian and Emma) Meehan; Sister Margaret (Bob) Plewes, and a valued extended family.

A life well lived; a man both respected and loved

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

A loving mother and wife, and friend to many, Connie Lavallee passed away in Revelstoke on Wednesday, April 29 th , 2020. Born in Vancouver (February 8, 1940), Connie married her neighbourhood sweetheart, Bernard Lavallee, in December 1960 and they moved to Revelstoke in 1963, where they raised their two children. Even with the distance of modern lives, Connie fostered close relationships with her son, Philip (Calgary), and daughter and son-in-law, Loraine and Barry (Prince George). Connie’s connection to Vancouver always remained strong because of her relationship to family, especially her two Aunts, May Cameron and Doris Hoag.

A sense of adventure and interest in culture permeated Connie’s life. As a homemaker, she loved entertaining and cooked delicious and exotic dishes from around the world. In her home, she created a cultural mosaic as a home-stay host to English-language students from Japan, Korea, Europe, Mexico and South America. Cultivating a wonderful sense of community among her students, she enhanced their lives and they hers. She travelled as much as she could, including visiting past students, but would have done much more if her health had permitted.

Connie was a skilled and creative interior designer. In 1982 she went to Vancouver to attend design school. She had a passion for re-designing houses and creating beautiful and functional living spaces. When she returned to Revelstoke, she worked as a realtor, a job that she loved because of the contact with people and the lovely sense of community in Revelstoke, and she set herself to re-designing her new and final home on Front Street.

Connie’s last big challenge was living with a rare degenerative neurological disease that took her vision, balance and motor control, but not her mind. She made many friends in Revelstoke and valued them warmly, but special mention must be made of those who were so close to her as her health declined: Josie Woodman, Else and Gordie Landers,
Gwyn and Geoff Battersby, Virginia and Robin Brooks-Hill, and Ruby Cameron. It truly takes a village to care for a person and Connie and Bernard have been greatly supported by homecare workers, quite notably, Chris Froehlich and caring neighbours, including Jeff and Lisa and Cal and Holly. A special thank you to nurses at the Queen Victoria Hospital for their exceptional care and support in Connie’s final days.

Observing the social-gathering restrictions, a service with family only was held on May 5 th .
