Floyd Edward Smith 1946 - 2016

Floyd Edward Smith
1946 – 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of Floyd Edward Smith announces his passing on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the age of 78 years, in Salmon Arm, BC.

Born in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan, to Charles and Priscilla Smith, the family moved to Keremeos from Winnipeg in 1937. There, he met Grace and they married moving to Revelstoke in 1960. Floyd worked for Celgar as a scaler for many years and then hired on with CP Rail in 1970 as an Accountant in the Customer Service Centre. In 1984 he accepted the Mobile Supervisor position with CP Rail in Salmon Arm and retired there in 1996. Floyd had a real passion for life. From slow pitch to bowling, from upholstering to carpet laying and from sewing to embroidery. There didn’t seem to be much he couldn’t do. He spent many years either calling Bingo or playing alongside his wife Grace who shared many of his interests. They could often be found together gardening and gathering fresh produce for canning.  In Floyd’s latter years his interests included caring for Grace, as well as studying to become a Breath Integration Counselor. His passion for driving carried over into the electronic world as he joined an internet car racing club on his IPad to which he would become a dominant member. He enjoyed being part of the Team.

Floyd, beloved Husband to Grace for 56 years, will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Candy and her husband Derek. Floyd will also be fondly remembered by his granddaughter Haleigh, many cousins, nieces, nephews, special friends Dick, Jenny, Tish and Karen and several other friends that he called family.

Floyd was predeceased by his sister Shirley, brother Jim and daughter Lisa.

A Celebration of Life will be held  on Saturday June 25 at 1 pm at the Scout Hall,  2460 Auto Rd SE, Salmon Arm.  There will be a time set aside for anyone wishing to share memories.

We will forever adore and remember you – we will stand taller and stronger, knowing you are now watching over us – always believing.

Thank you to all the Doctors, Nursing and Oncology staff at the Shuswap General Hospital for the exceptional care Floyd received.  We will never forget your kindness.

Donations in memory of Floyd may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Yvette Mitchell 1949-2016

Yvette Mitchell
1949-2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Yvette Florence Mitchell (Gadbois) at Queen Victoria Hospital on Tuesday, August 9th, after a courageous, hard fought battle with cancer, with her family by her side.  There will be no formal service by Yvette’s own request.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice, in memory of Yvette.

Yvette was born June 14, 1949, in Revelstoke and was a lifelong resident.  Upon completing high school she continued her education in Kelowna which landed her a job with CP Rail.  After a few years passed and she started her own family, her love of children grew so she pursued her Early Childhood Education.  She worked for over 20 years as a play school teacher and loved all of her “kids.”  After retirement the mama role continued and blossomed and included those well experienced.  She was a terrific cook – the more the merrier!  She loved gardening, swimming, sewing, biking, walks, hikes and RV-ing.  She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her friends.  Yvette also loved to travel and Newfoundland was her favorite.  Family was very important to Yvette.  She loved all of her adventures with family or friends.  She was unique and took pride that instead of buying toys as gifts she would give experiences she could enjoy with her grandchildren.

Yvette was predeceased by her parents and in-laws. She is survived by her loving  and devoted husband Roy;  two daughters Corrie (Chris) of Kamloops, Barbara of Revelstoke; her two step-sons James (Kristi) of Brooks and Chad of Vancouver; her loving beautiful granddaughters Shealynn, Leah  and Rachel; five brothers, one sister, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of good friends.

At this time the family would like to thank all those in the medical profession that helped along the way from Revelstoke, to Vernon, to Vancouver.  We would also like to thank all our wonderful friends and family for their continuous support.

Phillip Patrick (Pat) Wells
1952 – 2016

Mr. Phillip Patrick (Pat) Wells died in Palliative Care at Mount Cartier Court, on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at the age of 63 years.

Pat was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on December 30, 1952. He grew up on the east coast in Nova Scotia where he learned to find peace and developed a keen sense of curiosity and adventure in the outdoors.

He loved his family very much and has been able to bring generations together to share in common interests through their connection to him and the outdoors. He spent many years building many relationships and connections with people and places. The people in his life have become his extended family and he spent his last days sharing love and memories across all of these connections.

He was most at home in nature and the forest doing the things he loved: hunting, walking through reading the landscape, gathering, fishing, and showing people the way he saw things. Pat enjoyed the company of trees in the place where fish live and the big woods where critters live.

It is our sincere wish that all those that knew and loved Pat will remember him when they are themselves out in nature, and sharing stories he told or experiences they had with him.

The wild was his home. He brought the stuff of the wilds into the lives of those he knew. Thanks to all who shared in the wild with Pat, and to those who take pieces of it on in their lives.

Dear Editor:

I am sending you these pictures taken Sunday the 11th of August in the playground at Mountain View School.  Just so no one thinks Mr. Bear returned to clean up after himself, I will tell you my husband and I did the job. That trash can has been full for at least a week, probably far longer, with pizza crusts, noodle packs, chicken bones, diapers and other lovely noshable goodies just perfect for luring bears.

Thanks for your attention,

Diane Winingder

Robert (Bob) Tottenham September 25, 1930 -September 27, 2016

Robert (Bob) Tottenham
September 25, 1930 -September 27, 2016

Bob passed away peacefully at home on September 27, 2016. Born in Chaplin, Saskatchewan, to Claude and Gertrude Tottenham, he was the 8th of 10 children, and the last of his siblings. He spent his early years in Surrey and Arrowhead before joining the RCAF in 1950. He was serving in Ontario when he met and married Noreen in 1955.

Bob and Noreen moved to Revelstoke in 1957 where he worked as a mechanic at Downie Street Sawmills and later with the Ministry of Highways at 50 Mile and Trout Lake. After retiring he volunteered at the Revelstoke Thrift Shop where he spent many hours repairing whatever came in. Dad always said the most important tools in the tool box were the duct tape and bailing wire.

Papa/Pops loved spending time with his grand-children — whether it was fishing, working on vehicles or letting them dye his hair, his patience was tested regularly. He enjoyed his garden and was known to pass along important knowledge — such as when it was the right time to plant corn – right Patti? He was a proud member of C.A.S.A.R.A. and the Revelstoke Aero Modellers.

Bob/Dad/Papa/Pops will be greatly missed by his family: wife Noreen; children: Cindy, Mark, and Cory; grandchildren: Robert, Rebecca, Madison, Kiera, Kevin, Ken, Katrina, Kathy, Kaitlin, Jen, James, and Ashlee; great grandchildren: Farrah, Cash, and North.

One of his favourite sayings was “It pays to be nice!”

As per his wishes there will be no service.

Mark is survived by his wife Barb; his daughter Kristine (David) Holland, son Ryan (Jeslyn) Weeden; three grandchildren: Lauryn, Alissa and MacLaren; his mother Roberta “Bobbie” Chabot of Vernon, BC; brother Mike (Noreen) Weeden, sisters Laura Smith and Julie Yachetti.

Special thanks to all of Mark’s doctors this last 1½ years – Dr. Mostert, Dr. Jarmula, Dr. Gary Goplen, Dr. David Hoegler and Dr. Ed Hardy.

Messages of sympathy may be sent to Mark’s family by viewing his obituary at: www.brandonbowersfuneralhome.com.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.

Marie Mona Anita Trembley Chornobey 1959 - 2016

Marie Mona Anita Trembley Chornobey
1959 – 2016

Mona was born on August 26th, 1959, in Timmins, Ontario. She relocated to Revelstoke in the early 1980’s. She passed away at Mount Cartier Court on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at 57 years old.

Mona settled into family life for a few years until the disease of alcoholism afflicted her. She chose to live a transient lifestyle for many years. The highlight of these years was meeting people on the street and sharing a smile and a one liner with them.

In 2013, after a medical emergency, a team of family, friends and community professionals wrapped Mona with support to get her housing and settle into a stable routine that met her needs. For these last 3 years Mona loved having a warm, comfortable apartment, flannelette pajamas, cable TV and enough money each and every day to keep food in her cupboards and supply her with the beer and smokes that she enjoyed. Mona was truly content!

The community of Revelstoke is a kind and caring community. Revelstokians have been compassionate to Mona over the years. Mona enjoyed her routines of walking around town and talking with people, joking and kibitzing that brought smiles to the people she spoke with. Mona’s first language was French and she loved conversing with people in French.

A special mention to the staff of: the Toronto Dominion Bank; Conversations Coffee House; the RCMP; the Gateway Inn; Tammie at Selkirk Graphics; Cathy, Patti and Melissa J of Community Connections; Doug Hulley and Gill Maclaughlan at Monashee Court; Laura at 1st Impressions; Mona’s close friends including Julie V, Alice, Cori, Peggy, Chris and many more friends who know how special they were to Mona (sorry we couldn’t list all of you); the residents of Monashee Court who welcomed Mona; and Mona’s “Bon Ami”, Mylene.

A thank you and acknowledgement of exceptional care to: Dr Sarah Brown; Lorrie Rogers; Tuulikki Tennant, Audrey, Chelsea, Siobhan and all of the Homecare team; the caring staff at Mount Cartier Court; the dedicated Hospice Society volunteers Vivian, Joanne, Jane, Jill and Krista; Mona’s family and extended family and all who visited her at Mt. Cartier Court. These caring people showed Mona respect and treated her with dignity.

Mona is predeceased by her parents, Lucille and Laurent Trembley and her brother Mark Trembley and her close friend Julie Aho.

She is survived by her two children, their father and his family and two beautiful grandchildren; her sister Claire, brother Dennis, sister in law Marsha and nieces and nephews; and her step siblings Michael, Candy, Cindy, Derek & Blake.

By request of Mona and her family, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mona’s favourite song was “Years From Now” by Dr Hook. To remember Mona, she asked that you please play her favourite song and raise your glass in her memory.
