Obituary Notice — Neil Muth

Neil Muth 1959 - 2016

Neil Muth
1959 – 2016

Columbia Basin Trust Board and staff, and residents of the region join Neil’s family in mourning the unexpected passing of Neil Muth, President and CEO. Neil will be remembered for his honest and sincere engagement with communities, his leadership and his commitment to supporting the efforts of the people of the Basin.

“The Trust Board and staff are deeply saddened,” said Trust Chairman Rick Jensen. “Neil was a friend, a mentor and a leader to so many. He inspired us all to strive for excellence for the Trust and the Basin. We mourn his loss and extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Cathy and three children, John, Emily and Hilary.”

Revelstoke Mayor Mark McKee was shocked and saddened by Neil’s death.

“It is with deep regret that I note the passing of Neil Muth,” he said. “In the 11 years Neil served as President and CEO of the Columbia Basin Trust he always impressed me. He was a hardworking executive who was dedicated to making the Basin a prosperous region through innovation and visionary social change.

“As Mayor of Revelstoke, I know that all members of Council and, indeed, our community share his family’s sorrow.“

Minister of Energy and Mines Bill Bennett, too, expressed his condolences to Neil’s wife Cathy and their children.

“As a long-time resident of the Columbia Basin and as the minister responsible for Columbia Basin Trust, I will be forever grateful for the knowledge, wisdom and vision Neil shared with me on many, many occasions,” he said. “Neil has been taken from us far too soon, but his contributions to the growth of the Trust and to the people of the Basin will live on forever.”

Neil joined the Trust in 2005. He was born and raised in Trail, and was excited to return to the region from Victoria, where he served as Vice-President, Private Placements, for the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation. That excitement showed in his passion for and interest in every aspect of Basin communities: their projects and their aspirations, as well as the best places to ski, eat and have a cup of coffee.

Neil’s accomplishments as President and CEO over the past 11 years are many, but his appreciation and respect for the Trust’s mission statement are what truly defined his service: by ensuring the Trust built and delivered programs with residents and communities; by seeking out and responding directly to feedback and guidance from communities; and by being flexible and responsive to community needs.

“While he left us much too early, we will do our best to honour Neil by continuing to work closely with communities and people just like he did,” added Jensen.

The Trust Board of Directors will announce succession for the CEO role at a later date. In the interim, there are no changes anticipated in the Trust’s day-to-day business activities.

Neil passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. He was 57. Neil’s family will hold a private service for their beloved husband and father and will also be establishing a scholarship fund in his name. Donations can be made to: CIBC account 05070/45-51311 c/o Columbia Basin Trust.

Stories, memories and messages can be sent to condolences@cbt.org or to the Trust office (300, 445 13th Avenue, Castlegar, BC V1N 1G1).

Alice Winnifred Kelley
1918 – 2016

Our mother, Alice Winnifred Kelley, died on Friday morning, December 30, 2016, at age 98 years. Alice lived in Revelstoke for 40 years, the past 3.5 in Mount Cartier Court. She is survived by her children Donna and Roy Beaumont of Salmon Arm, Barbara and Len Conradson, Revelstoke, Tom and Joan Kelley, Kamloops, and Mike Kelley, Revelstoke.

Mom will be greatly missed, but always loved, by granddaughters, Launa Payne, Monica Boschmann, and Lindsey Kelley and grandsons Trevor Clark, Ken Montie, Marty Hein, Jason Kipping, Dustin Kelley, and Thomas Duthie. Alice had many great-grandchildren, Martina, Spencer, Lacey, Jackson, Darby, Teigan, Luke, Evan, Colton, Alexandra, Kasandra, Johnathon, Tyler, and Kiersten, many of whom were able to have a long relationship with grandma Alice because of her long life. Great-grandson Reece Hammond was able to visit Grandma Alice and entertain her, and keep mom and Mount Cartier staff laughing. Alice met her great great-grandson Roan, and saw photos of great-great-granddaughter Willow.

In the 1960s, Alice worked at Boat Encampment Lodge and also ran a concession stand at the Mica Creek rec center. Later, in Revelstoke, she managed the bus depot near Zalas, and cooked, baked and supervised at the ABC restaurant.

Mom also enjoyed her work providing home care for seniors in Revelstoke.

Alice will be buried in Mission, BC, in the spring with a traditional St’at’icm burial. Alice was the oldest member of the First Nations Band of Port Douglas, BC, (Xa’xtsa) located at the head of Harrison Lake. She was born there in 1918 to Charles and Agnes Purcell.

Rest In Peace, our beloved, strong, kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. You are missed.
